This week, your Illinois legislature passed two bills. The first bill passed by the senate and house is the Parental Notice of Abortion Act. The repeal of this act allows minors to receive an abortion without parental notification. State Senator Sue Rezin stated, “Today’s vote is yet another attack on the rights of parents by the Democrat majority that will deny parents the opportunity to provide their daughters with the help and support that they need during one of the most difficult times in their life. By repealing the Parental Notice of Abortion Act of 1995, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle sent a clear message to the parents across the state that they believe parents have no right to know about their child’s health or health care decisions.”

The second bill passed was SB 1169, amending the Healthcare Right of Conscience Act. The amendment would explicitly note that the law does not offer protections for those wanting to invoke it to sidestep mandated COVID-19 vaccinations. It also would empower governments to terminate workers who don’t comply with vaccination orders. State Representative Keith Wheeler stated, “Legislation supported by Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Democrats negates the protections afforded to you and every resident of our state under the Healthcare Right of Conscience Act.”

This Illinois legislature has demonstrated time and time again they think they know what is best for you and your family. These bills passed by Illinois Democrats take autonomy away from you, your friends, and your family.

Friends, the time to listen and act is NOW. The time to get involved is NOW. The time to fight is NOW. As we gear up for midterm elections next year, we need everyone involved to defeat the democrat regime. Come to a meeting, bring a friend, talk to your neighbors, and spread the word that democrat policies hinder personal liberty and free markets.

Sincerely,

Gabriella Shanahan

Chairwoman, Kendall County Young Republicans
